Enjoy and Be Safe in Your Jacuzzi!

Jacuzzis are one of the many luxury items that most people would love to own. With warm, bubbling waters circling you, and steam floating into the air, jacuzzis are as fun as they are therapeutic. You’ll want to make sure, though, that you’re being safe when you use your jacuzzi. Accidents can happen, and people can get sick if you aren’t careful. Jacuzzis are an excellent option for hydrotherapy and help thousands of people each year who are suffering from chronic pain and difficulties with their muscles. With any equipment, though, it is important to take care of business and to make sure that you’re doing what you can to prevent misuse of your investment.

Make Sure You Bathe Before Entering

People underestimate the good they do when they bathe before entering shared water, like a pool or hot tub. Neglecting to bathe before entering a hot tub or jacuzzi puts yourself and everyone in the tub at risk for sickness. Your skin has all of the dirt and sweat collected from the day, whatever lotions or cologne you may be wearing, lint and residue from your clothing, and of course, dead skin and natural skin oil. All of this goes into the jacuzzi with you when you get in, and there is a reason to be concerned. Warm water opens pores, and pores, like any other orifice, are a gateway to the rest of your body. Pores can absorb whatever comes in contact with them into the bloodstream, where dirt and bacteria could make you sick. The simple act of bathing before soaking is hygienic, and could save someone a trip to the doctor!

One Drink is Okay, but Don’t Drink Excessively

It is understandable why someone would want to sit in their hot tub with a beer, or with a glass of wine. When you’re winding down after a long day, you want your drink with you while you pamper yourself with warm water. Your drink at the end of the day is like the bath itself in that it calms and relaxes you. Doing this, though, can be dangerous: the warmth of the water amplified the effect of the alcohol by dehydrating you and can make you sick. If you enjoy a drink before your soak, make sure that you keep it at one to keep yourself safe.

Clean Your Tub and Filter Regularly

This is the most important thing that you will do for yourself, and for anyone else that is using your jacuzzi. You do need to drain your tub, clean it thoroughly, rinse it, and refill it with fresh water every couple of weeks. Checking in your area for local pool cleaners will usually lead you to companies who are able to do this for you. After you’ve got fresh water in your jacuzzi, make sure to utilize your jacuzzi cover; standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitos. Clean your filter as often as you can. A dirty filter can’t protect you from everything that you don’t want in your water. Take care of your jacuzzi, and it will take care of you!
