OUR HOT TUB BLOG

One small but necessary part that some may overlook when thinking about their hot tub performance: the filters.

By realizing the importance of keeping your filters clean and fully functioning, your hot tub remains safe for dipping and aids in making sure it’s performing at its best.

We live in a world where we want our life to be as comfortable as possible. Our homes are a big part of that comfort. As such, making sure you have the right decor and modern equipment help to make your home life cozy and by extension your life in general. Having a hot tub is one such necessity that offers comfort as it can be your getaway after a long and tiresome day at work.

But, just like any other equipment, your hot tub requires proper maintenance and cleanliness for effective performance and comfort. It is therefore extremely important that you understand what you should do regarding hot tub filters. Below are some guidelines we have outlined to help you keep them sparkling clean!

Basic Rinsing

Your hot tub filters get clogged with particles that get into the water without your knowledge. Sometimes the particles are so small that the filter is incapable of restricting them from passing. It is, therefore, a necessity to do a simple cleaning of the filters every two weeks. Just remove the filter and vigorously soak the filter.

You can try using a hose as the high pressure from the hose can help remove specks of dirt and particles. You can combine this method with cleaning detergents for better results. After you clean the filter, you will have to replace the water in the tub and clean the tub too. You can also perform basic rinsing weekly depending on how often you use your tub.

Bleaching

Bleaching the hot tub filters is a method that has been around for quite some time. However, make sure you are selecting the right bleach that leaves the filters clean and safe. Usually, you just remove the filters and place it in a container. Then, fill the container with bleach to remove the dirt and particles. Using this chemical ensures nearly every trace of trapped dirt is removed. Do keep in mind that some cartridges cannot withstand prolonged exposure to bleach as it is a very harsh chemical. We suggest alternating bleach with another cleaning method from time to time in order to lengthen the lifespan of your filters.

Cleaning in a Dishwasher

Did you know you can even use your dishwasher to clean filters? This is in fact quite a popular method. Just place the filters in a dishwasher and add laundry detergent. Most people have adopted this method as it is cheap, cost-effective, and does an excellent job of cleaning your filters. However, you have to be careful and observe the filters as they are more prone to falling apart after several runs in the dishwasher. It is therefore important that you alternate this method with other methods or avoid using this method when your filters are really dirty.

If you don’t want to expose your hot tub filters to other methods of cleaning, know that there are specific cleaners made for this job! That’s right: there are cleaners specifically made for your hot tub filters. They come in various types and designed to fight bacteria while keeping your filters sparkly clean. Some cleaners can also work on calcium build-ups in the filters that cause the blockage of water.
